Community Involvement
Whether we're volunteering at a local park, coaching and mentoring with community running organizations, or advocating for runner safety, we strive to help make Berks County a better place to run.
Since 2012, the Pacers gave an additional $82,000-plus back to the community through school running programs as well as other organizations that promote the health and well-being of our community. Some of our recipients include:
-
Oley Valley Youth League $20,168
-
Friends of Nolde Forest $8,200
-
Berks County Special Olympics $11,317
-
Berks Nature $10,000
-
Berks County Cross County Coaches Assoc. $12,308
-
Scholarships $12,500
-
Jr, High School XC Championships $7,659
In 2016 nearly $1,200 went to our program that assists needy high school track and XC runners by helping them purchase new running shoes.
We are designated trail stewards for a section of the Horse Shoe Trail and for a section of the trail around Blue Marsh. A Pacer member is Chairman of Trail Maintenance of the HST Conservancy.
Click here for more information regarding our trail maintenance program.
We have members active on the Berks County Trail Council.
Pacers have been active in HST reroutes and maintenance, Nolde Forest trail maintenance, Mt Penn trail clean ups, Engelman Park clean up, and painting up at the Pagoda.
Each month, the Pacer’s give back to our community by holding a charity training run. We donate goods to local not-for-profit organizations that need our help. Below is a list of some of the charities we donate to. To bring something appropriate for the charity, such as canned goods, pet food, or books, check out their websites and find out more about what services they provide. Join us not just for exercise, but to give back to our community!
